Derrick Silas is a native of Mississippi and a 1999 graduate of Mississippi Valley State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. He did additional graduate work towards a Masters in Teaching while employed as a Database Administrator at Mississippi Valley State University.

He has been on the forefront of mobile, innovative, social media and other government technologies since being hired by the City of Enid, OK in 2008, which garnered four national awards.

In December 2011, Derrick was appointed as a member of the Government Technology Applications Review Board (GTARB) by the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the State of Oklahoma. He has served as both Communications Director and Treasurer for the National Association of Government Communicators (NAGC) and Secretary for Inspire Greater Enid. He is a member of National Association of Government Web Professionals (NAGW), City-County-Communications Marketing Association (3CMA), and Information Professionals for Oklahoma.

Derrick oversees a national orchestra headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. He enjoys writing poetry, hymns, psalms, and musical compositions. In addition, in his spare time, he gives voice and music lessons to children and adults.
